Hello all! Gosh, long time no blog. I’ve been overwhelmed with messages from adoring public (irate relatives) asking for another update, and I apologise for the delay. I hope cyberspace hasn’t been too bleak a place without my terrible puns and even more terrible terriers in it. I couldn’t possibly squeeze in everything we’ve been up to since I last wrote- it has been months, after all- so here are a few very important highlights:
Sears family member caught in red trouser/ festive jumper shocker:
This photo was taken in my beautiful hometown of Lewes; home to the Castle, Harvey’s brewery, and most recently, Kevin Bacon- the latter causing quite a stir when filming this commercial there last summer.
My fabulous Grandmother played beer pong at Christmas, her under-arm technique non-conformist yet surprisingly effective…
…and in that vein, I found this cider in Melbourne (no offence Nana):
Whilst in Australia I spent a lovely day trail riding with friends:
One of whom adorably described the horse on the far left as the ‘dalmatian pony’. You know who you are.
To the present day and I’m back in Miami, only this time with the gruesome twosome in tow. Maggie has been sampling the local delicacies:
Not sure what’s worse- Maggie’s tongue or the sausage with a face
and Rusty’s been doing…this:
Crossing the Atlantic means that they’ve finally met my good friend Cooper, who now finds himself the slightly hesitant heartthrob in a wonky love triangle.
I’m not sure he was prepared to fight off the amorous advances of not one but two misguided Border Terriers, but he is so far managing admirably.
On a more serious note, I visited the Wynwood Walls area of Miami, of which I was completely oblivious until recently.
Previously a desolate urban landscape consisting primarily of warehouses and other industrial buildings, it was transformed in 2009 into a huge showcase for street art and graffiti. I took a few photographs of my favourite pieces:
And because I’m a sucker for anything cowboy-esque:
Some walls are militant in their message- as is relatively common with urban art- whilst others serve more simply as beautiful splashes of colour in an admittedly bleak landscape. Regardless, the project forces you to stand back and ponder in an area which would otherwise be sped through in a passing car, and I was happy to spend an afternoon exploring.
I’ve just completed this commission as a surprise birthday present, of a family of dogs nicknamed ‘The Incorrigibles’.
I clearly have a soft spot for terriers, and everybody loves a labrador, but I’d grown up with German Shepherds and had forgotten quite how beautiful they were, their eyes in particular being great fun to paint. It was a tricky composition to master (I’d been told that persuading all dogs to sit together at once was never going to happen) but I think Maggie and Rusty would agree that the terrier belongs in the front. Although she does appear to be on the cusp of being devoured by the big red Shepherd behind her.
Back soon,
Kim x
