I know I know, long time no blog. And I’m afraid I can’t stay for long but thought I’d post a quick update of a painting I’ve just finished.
It’s been said that the best things come in small packages, and preferably in two. So you can imagine my excitement when I was asked to paint two beautiful Dachshunds, Oscar and Monty. I was able to meet this fabulous duo in the summer and spend a little time photographing them- which involved a lot of rolling around on the floor and not much else. It became apparent from quite early on that Oscar was going to be a tricky subject:
However I eventually got the perfect shot to work from. We decided to go big, on a 6ft canvas, which I was so happy about as it’s often the smallest dogs that carry the largest presence. That’s definitely true for these two; I’ve not spent much time around Dachshunds before, so was amazed to find that they have a bark as deep as a Doberman. I was delighted with how the painting turned out and hope it’s enjoyed in its new home.
(Note: daylight lamp responsible for the psychedelic background- it’s a very plain white in real life.)
And I finish with a quick update of Maggie and Rusty’s latest movements, which involve very little movement at all:
